How did TYE  story begin  and why did you chose to be a shoemaker?

In Japan it is believed that deities (KAMI) dwell in all things like trees, flowers, pebbles so going outside barefooted means that we would step on them (delties). The awe of earth delties makes us wear shoes. My wish was to create a pair of shoe that  is valuable.  I started TYE SHOEMAKER and I would like to pay my respects and contribute to create the connection beetwen people and earth.
Where did you learn the craft? 
In Japan.
What does TYE name mean?
” TYE” represents the combination of  letters of staff’s name. IMG_6857

What other shoemakers do you admire and why?

I respect all shoemakers who challenge themselves.

What memories do you have of your first order?

My first order was a Button up lady’s boots. I remember that it  was very difficult to make…
You work alone?
We are four persons in the workshop : a aloser, a pattern maker, a Leather goods maker and me. I’m in charge of lasts and shoemaking.
What are the prices for bespoke and the waiting period? In what stage of the process do you use machines? Who make the lasts?
Currently, we take bespoke orders from our customers at our atelier (Taito-ku,Tokyo,Japan) or salon “ICHO” (Minato-ku,Tokyo,Japan).
Price ( are as follows :
Bespoke shoes  from JPY 315000.
Bespoke ankle boots from JPY 367500.
Bespoke long boots  from JPY 493500. (Exchange rate: 1 Euro = 141 JPY)
Delivery : from 8 months.
Trial fittings : Yes
Making method : Hand-made(all)
Lasts : Custom-made (base / block)
Leather :  from Italy, France, Germany, England and Japan.
Is ready-to-wear or made to order  part of your future plans? Do you plan a trunk-show in the near future?
In the near future we will be focused on  Bespoke service only. We don’t have plans of a trunk-show for now.
What goals have you you set for yourself andyou weren’t able to reach until this moment?
My goals are set by my customers so I try to achive perfection by pleasing each and single one of my customers.
What is your favorite word?
In fact there are four worlds: Civility, Refinement, Precision and Simplicity (=TSUTSUMASHISA)
What is your least favorite word?
Trap, Loophole (=OTOSHIANA)
What turns you on (creatively, spiritually or emotionally)?

Works is essential to me. It usually calms my mind while working.

What turns you off?

However, I feel on or off when I feel that it is still unskilled.
What is your favorite curse word?
Sorry, but can’t answer…
What sound or noise do you love?
Morning sounds.
What profession would you not like to do?
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
I would tell Him: If possible,  please allow us to make your shoes.
